Population and pollution
One the major causes of air pollution and the growing problem of global warming is motor car carbon dioxide emissions. This is brought about by the increasing use motor cars. This brings us to the question of why do people buy motor cars and use them to such an extent. One major cause is the increasing population. This yearly increase of population is computed to be 31,000 in Toronto. Assuming a 3 person household, this is roughly 10,000 new homes per year. With an assumed 100 square meter house, this is 1,000,000 square meters per year or 1 square kilometer. Because city land is mostly already occupied, these houses must be placed in the unoccupied outskirts. This means, therefore, that the farthest house from the city center is at least another 1 kilometer away. Thus, in a mere 10 years, this farthest house can be 5 to 10 kilometers away. Too far to walk, these people must have a car to traverse to the city center. Assuming a 1 car per household rate for these far away houses means there is an additional 10,000 cars going into the city every year. This is what causes excessive urban pollution due to car emissions.
This can be remedied by building higher instead of building wider as these far away housing projects promote. Toronto Condominiums are situated in the city centers which means the use of the car can be largely dispensed with or, at least, limited to short distance use only. Thus, investing in Toronto Condos can save in gas bills and reduce global warming.
